I Heart New Braunfels – Hiking Trails

why i heart new braunfelsOne More Reason Why I Heart New Braunfels: Hiking Trails

It’s finally cooling off enough to go outside again. The Comal Country Fair Parade is my mental reminder that falls is actually here. In New Braunfels that doesn’t really mean cold weather, but the mornings and evenings might actually allow for a long sleeve shirt and the daytime weather is beautiful. Fall is the time of year that my family really enjoys being outdoors in the Hill Country doing everything from hanging in the yard grilling and spending evenings by the fire pit to exploring our local parks and trails. My husband captured it pretty well the other day by saying “I love the 4th quarter!” He was probably talking about Halloween & Wurstfest a little more than hiking trails, but it’s our favorite time of the year!

Right here in New Braunfels there are several walking paths and hiking trails. You can view a list on the city website: New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Trails. I usually take my family to the Panther Canyon trail which stretches from Landa Park to New Braunfels High School. It is 1.6 miles round trip. I pulled the map below from Austin Explorer’s review of the trail (click to read more).

This weekend I’m hoping to check out the Dry Comal Nature Trail Which starts on one side of the Little League Ball fields and works it’s way around a 2.25 mile loop which lets out on the other side of the fields. This trail allows biking and walking (here is a link to the full version of the map below), so we might even take our bikes!
